Teen SRC 2018 – Burning Midnight by Will McIntosh

Burning Midnight

Burning Midnight by Will McIntosh

This book is about a boy named David Sullivan (Sully). He hunts for spheres-or, more exactly, orbs. These orbs are special-unlike the ones we normally call “marbles”. These orbs give you special powers if you press two to your temple. Better eyesight, more athletic, better hearing, etc. Sully is a sphere/orb dealer at a flea market, and one day, he meets a very strange girl named Hunter. She is a born sphere hunter, and has a special talent for finding them. The rarer the color of sphere, the better the improvement/power you get. Hunter and Sully power up, and they hunt for spheres-together. One day, they find a gold orb-a color nobody has seen before. But what does it actually do? With professional (not really) orb hunters on their tail, they don’t have time to figure it out.

I personally loved this book but I thought the ending ended too early. They found the orb about 3 quarters into the book, but the whole book ended about 3 pages after. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Well. It wasn’t so interesting at the end, but I loved the beginning! 👍

Teen SRC 2018 – The Fever Code by James Dashner

The Fever Code

The Fever Code by James Dashner

After the sun flares burned down the Earth and a plague killed off the remaining survivors, only a few people were left. Some of those survivors created WICKED, a group hoping to restore the world to the way it used to be. WICKED found Thomas, the perfect candidate for their team. He built the maze that may change everything forever.

This book was very okay. The story itself was not bad however I think the Maze Runner series should have ending with the first three books. I personally felt that this book was unnecessary. I would rate it a 3.5/5

The Game of Lives by James Dashner

In The Game of Lives, Michael must stop the cyber-terrorist Kaine from complete cyber domination. Michael and his friends are the only ones that can stop Kaine. If they aren’t quick enough, reality will dissolve very soon.

This book was an excellent finale the the series. There were more plot twists than the second book and the conclusion was very good and left me wanting more. I rate this book a 4.9/5

After Michael agreed to work with the government, things in the VirtNet are way different than before. The cyber – terrorist Kaine is not a human like Michael expected. Kaine is a Tangent meant to make the Mortality Doctrine and the real world become the same thing meaning that humans will become Tangents. Will Michael and his friends be able to save everyone?

This was an excellent sequel filled with plot twists and surprises. The book kept me on the edge of my seat constantly flipping pages. I rate this book a 4.8/5

Teen SRC 2018 – The Eye Of Minds by James Dashner

The Eye of Minds

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

In a futuristic world, everyone loves the VirtNet, a full mind and body virtuality reality experience. Everything is good in the VirtNet until an unknown gamer starts breaking rules causing harm to others in the real world. Michael is an excellent gamer in the VirtNet and is exactly what the government needs. If Michael accepts the government’s offer, he will need to put his life on the line to hunt down the unknown gamer in the VirtNet.

Although the general theme of this novel – virtual reality in the future, is over used and may not seem interesting, this book did not disappoint. The characters and plot are very captivating and was an enjoyable read. I rate this book a 4.5/5

This book was an excellent finale to the series. It achieved all my high expectations. The ending was a little bit confusing to understand due to the amount of action that was packed into a few pages. The overall book was good. I rate this book a 4.8/5

Teen SRC 2018- The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

The Eye of MindsThe Eye of Minds by James Dashner

This book takes place in a dystopian future where video games are so immersive that you have to get put to sleep in order to play them. Every one plays together and interacts just as in real life, but things get weird when Michael, the protagonist, tries to stop someone from committing suicide. It turns out the girl trying to commit suicide, altered the code so that if she dies in the game she dies in real life. During this struggle Michael finds out that there might be something more devious at play.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.

Teen SRC 2018 – The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

After four horrific waves that shut down electronics, spread a deadly plague, and stripped humans of their humanity, Cassie is trying to survive in the scary new world. She must avoid Them, a scary group of beings that look like humans and kill every living human they encounter. Cassie is on a mission to find her younger brother and stay alone but this all changes when she meets Evan Walker. Together they learn to trust and work together to find Cassie’s brother.

This book is one of my favorites.  The characters were almost as great as the dystopian world that they are living in. This book was such a page turner I just could not put it down. I highly recommend this book. I rate it a 5/5.
