This book is really intriguing, especially when I read the first two sentences: ‘The first time Uncle Charlie came to live with us he was alive. The second time, he was dead’. That really freaked me out for a moment, because I would never want to be involved with ghosts, and when I say never, I mean it!
Even though I’m not a big fan of creepy stories, I decided to give this one a try. I mean, the title sounds interesting enough! Now that I look back, I realized that scary stories might just be my new favorite category of books!
Tony, the protagonist in the story, had never believed in ghosts, until his Uncle Charlie died, and that’s also when he started seeing him…or the ghost of Uncle Charlie. But there’s a lot more to the story. Before Uncle Charlie died, he transferred Tony to a school named Penda School. (At first I had thought it said Panda School). Anyways, then, Tony starts to notice strange going-on’s around the school. Most involving the supposedly dead son of the founder. But Tony keeps on seeing the dead boy, and a lot of dead people who seen more alive than ever, and when a girl named Jessica wants to be his friend, he’s not sure whether she was yet another dead soul-or worse.
I definitely say that this book is a must-read, but at the same time, I wouldn’t recommend it to people who aren’t a fan of creepy-horror stories. But for those like me who want to give something scary a shot, I would say, GO FOR IT! This is a great book and I would give it a 4 out of 5!
