Teen SRC 2018 – City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster

Image result for city of a thousand dollsNisha was abandoned at the entrance to the City of a Thousand Dolls when she was a child. Now sixteen, she lives on the grounds of the isolated estate, where orphaned girls apprentice as musicians, healers, courtesans, and (if the rumors are true) assassins at different Houses. Nisha becomes the Matron’s assistant, with her only companions being the mysterious cats that follow her in her shadow. Only when she begins a forbidden flirtation with a handsome young courier does she let herself imagine about a life outside the city walls. That was, until the girls around her start to die one by one.

Before she becomes the next victim, Nisha decides to investigate the secrets behind the girls’ deaths. But by getting involved, she jeopardizes not only her future, but her own life.

This book was… well… entertaining to read. Unfortunately, I don’t think the second book in this series is centered around Nisha, so I lost the interest and motivation to pick that one up. However, if you are interested, the second book is called Empire of Shadows.

Teen SRC 2018 – RoseBlood by A.G. Howard

This book is a brilliant retelling of the Related image
classic Phantom of the Opera book by Leroux. Rune Germain, a seventeen year old teenager with a mysterious affliction contributing to her operatic talent, was sent off to a French arts conservatory for her senior year by her mother, in hopes that creative direction will help her. This opera-themed school is located in an opera house with ties to the phantom of the opera.

At RoseBlood, Rune befriends Thorn, a mysterious and elusive violinist, who guides her through not only guides her musical transformation through dreams seeminglu more real than reality itself, but also knows about who she is behind her masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and experience a blossoming romance connecting them through the soul, Thorn must choose to lead Rune to her doom, or face the wrath of the phantom that has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’d ever known.

I loved A.G. Howard’s Splintered series, which is a modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland with a twist. As expected, this series doesn’t disappoint. Both of them are so amazing!!!!!

Teen SRC 2018 – SilverFin by Charlie Higson

Image result for silverfinJames Bond will one day become the world’s greatest spy, but he wasn’t always like that. At the moment, his biggest challenge is to fit in at his new school, making friends, learning the rules, and standing up to bullies. However, unknown to him, there is something deadly lurking in the water — SilverFin.

Meet the young James Bond during his teenage years  at Eton, and join him on his many adventures spanning over the 5 books in this series (I’m only counting the first 5 that were written by Charlie Higson, as technically there are 9 books). Have I told you I love mystery books yet? Maybe? Just a few times? Well, I don’t even know where to place this series on my favorite series list, as IT’S JUST SO GOOD!!!!! The beginning may be a little slow, but trust me. When the action parts begin, it’ll all be worth it.

Teen SRC 2018 – Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

Image result for scarlet a c gaughenWill Scarlet is good at two things: stealing from the rich and keeping secret, skills in high demand in Robin Hood’s merry band of thieves who protect the people of Nottingham from the evil and greedy sheriff. Scarlet’s biggest secret of all is one that only Robin and his men know… Scarlet, the slip of a boy who is fast with knives, is actually a girl posing as a thief.

The terrible events that took place in Scarlet’s past that led to her hiding her true identity are and verge of being exposed when the thief taker Lord Gisbourne arrives in town to get rid of Hood and his men once and for all. As Gisbourne puts innocent people at risk, Scarlet must decide how much the people of Nottingham mean to her, especially John Little, a flirtatious fellow outlaw, and Robin Hood, whose quick smiles manage to always unsettle her.

Teen SRC 2018- Remember by Eileen Cook

Image result for remember eileen cookHarper is used to the protestors constantly camping outside her home. Afterall, her father runs the company trademarking the “Memtex” procedure to wipe away sad memories, and plenty of people think it shouldn’t be legal. When Harper suffers an unexpected loss one day, she’s shocked that her father wouldn’t let her get the procedure, so she finds a way to get it without his approval. Soon afterwards, she begins getting plagued by strange symptoms, including visions of a woman who is both a stranger and familiar at the same time. Harper starts to wonder if she is being delusional, or if this woman was actually part of her memories.

Trying to uncover the truth on Memtex, Harper is joined by Neil, a protester who insists that he has his own reasons for needing answers about the dangers of the procedure. What she eventually finds could uproot all she’d ever believed her entire life…

I think this book is kind of underrated. It has a brilliant idea, about the ability to manipulate people’s memories. If all sadness can be taken away from you, would you be a better person? Would that actually be better for you? How much are you inclined to lose, and how bad should the memories be for you to want to erase them?

Teen SRC 2018 – The Three Muskateers by Alexandre Dumas

SImage result for three musketeers booket in France in the 1620’s, this is a tale of adventure, esponiage, conspiracy, murder, vengeance, love, scandal, and suspense. There is the Comte d’Artagnan, an impetuous young man in pursuit of glory, the evil seductress “Milady,” the powerful and devious Cardinal Richelieu, the weak King Louis with his unhappy Queen, and, of course, the three muscketeers themselves. Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, whose motto of “all for one, one for all” has come to represent friendship. With a plot that delivers stolen diamonds, masked balls, stolen letters, and great bouts of swordplay and fights, this book is infinitely entertaining.

This book was so engaging that I managed to finish it almost in one go in a single day. It was one of the first actually classical book I’ve ever read, and it was GREAT!!!!! I seriously recommend this book to anyone who loves action and historical fiction.

Teen SRC 2018 – MILA 2.0 by Debra Driza

Image result for mila 2.0Mila was just a normal girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town, until her life changed with one accident. She was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was supposed to forget her past — the fact that she was born in a secret science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now, Mila has no choice but to run, from the dangerous operatives that want her terminated because she knows too much, and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her to unlock her advanced technology. However, Mila’s becoming something beyond what anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

This was just a random book I picked off the shelves in the beginning… until it wasn’t. Immediately after finishing the first book, I proceeded to borrow the entire series, and to start weeping at the bittersweet ending. Definitely recommended for everyone who likes sci-fi!

Teen SRC 2018 – An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

UImage result for an ember in the ashesnder the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Laia and her family have managed to live an existence in the Empire’s impoverished back streets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ ve seen what happens to those who do. But, when Laia’s brother gets arrested for treason, she seeks an exchange with the rebels, who promise to rescue her brother if she risks her life and spy for them in the Empire’s biggest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier, and perhaps secretly the most unwilling. Elias wants nothing more than to be free from the tyranny he is forced to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their fates are entertwined, and that their choices can change the fate of the Empire itself.

Brilliant book!! First time I’ve appreciated romance in a fantasy book! I 100 percent support this couple!
