10 year old August Pullman was born with facial differences that required many surgeries to fix. Inside, he is a normal kid, who likes things normal kids like, Xbox, ice cream, and Star Wars. Being homeschooled all most of his life, he is now going to a public school for 5th grade. At first, he hates it, but during lunch a girl named Summer decided to sit with him, and the two of them quickly became friends. Later on, he makes friends with a boy named Jack, but this school isn’t only filled with nice people, there are still many people take behind his back, and one of the most notable one is Julian and his cronies. Will August survive 5th grade, or is the teasing and talking behind the back too much for him to handle.

A lockdown surprises 5 grade 12 students, and they all end up in the same washroom. Alice, is an introvert who is really good at writing, she also has the responsibility to take care of her autistic brother Noah. Isabelle is the popular girl that everyone wants to be friends with, who has a big ego and sometimes only cares about herself. Then there’s Hogan, who used to be a football player, but is now someone feared by many because of the rumors going around that he killed his brother, he may seem scary but in the inside, he just needs someone to understand. There’s also the last guy named Xander, he’s socially awkward and sometimes says things that shouldn’t be said out loud. He’s always snapping pictures of random moments with his camera he calls “The Tank”. After a while, Isabelle gets a text from her best friend Brianna that this lockdown is not a drill, and there’s an actual shooter roaming around in the school, and it also turns out that one of the people know more about this shooter than they realized, and together they try to figure out what the shooter is trying to do, and how to stop them.

The Giver by Lois Lowry is about Jonas, a 12 year old boy, lives in a community of sameness. There is no pain, fear, conflict, or hatred, actually, there are no feelings in this society. Everyone basically looks and acts the same, they act as if they are robots sometimes. There is no things such as racism, discrimination, homophobia in this community. Everyone loses their individuality, but don’t question it because they don’t remember their life before moving into the community. In this place, they have ceremonies every December to celebrate the children’s birthday, and on their 12th ceremony, they get assigned a job. Jonas gets assigned to be the new receiver of memory, which is the only person in the society that has memories of things that don’t exist in the community. His trainer, the receiver before him, the giver, transfer memories to Jonas every training session. During their training, Jonas starts feeling feelings for the first time, and he thinks that the rest of the community should have these memories too. He also realizes that all the strict rules the society has enforced isn’t a good thing since it removes freedom from others.

Charlie has two best friends named Skinny, who thinks he is a basketball prodigy, and CJ, which is a really smart girl. Ever since his dad died, Charlie has been acting different, and he and his mom would frequently argue. During summer break, Charlie’s mom decided to send him to go stay with his grandparents for the entire summer. At first, Charlie didn’t like it since his grandpa is always making him do chores, but later he plays basketball with his cousin Roxie, he starts to enjoy the sport, and practices every day. He starts finding joy in life again. Has he finally been able to come off the bench, or can he get up and rebound back to his normal lifestyle?
